The return of our sleeping river
For almost 50 years, the riverbed of Santa Eulalia del Río was a dry scar on the land — a silent, dusty path filled with memories.
The oldest locals would tell stories of when the water flowed, feeding the fields, singing among rocks and stones, and cooling the summer days.
But for our generation, it was nothing more than a distant memory — a fable told by our grandparents.
A golden opportunity…

Year after year, the hope of seeing it flow again slowly faded. Vegetation grew timidly at first, then stronger, reclaiming what seemed to have lost its purpose.
And then, without warning, on a morning in early October 2025, the miracle happened: the water returned.
After several days of storms and hundreds of liters of rain, the riverbed came back to life — that long-absent stream returned.
The river sang again, it moved again, it became the River once more.
And with it, something was rekindled in the people — hope, wonder, and a sense of reconnection with what had seemed lost forever.
After so many years of silence, the river began to tell its story again…
Where to visit it

You can reach the river by following the beach along the coast. The walk runs between the sand and the sea, accompanied by the sounds of tourists, waves, and the sea breeze. Toward the end, the river begins, and its path continues all the way to Sa Font den Lluna.
A few meters further, you’ll see two bridges that are an essential part of Santa Eulalia’s landscape. Crossing them will take you to the Can Planetes Museum, where you can end this wonderful route just a few steps away from your hostel in Santa Eulalia.
